This course provides clinical therapists with evidence-based skills to assess, manage, and intervene during mental health crises across various settings. It emphasizes safety, ethical decision-making, cultural responsiveness, and clinician self-regulation in high-pressure situations.
Across two days, clinical therapists can learn Crisis Intervention Skills for LMHCs, including identification and evaluation of mental health crises using structured frameworks, conducting rapid risk assessment for suicide, violence and acute decomposition, and de-escalation strategies for clients experiencing emotional and behavioral dysregulation. Learn to navigate ethical, legal and documentation requirements and collaborate with emergency service and support systems. The class will additionally address maintaining clinician safety and burnout prevention.

About our presenters:
John Ciervo, LMHC, MACCS specializes in crisis intervention-emergency response, and holistic psychotherapy. As Past President of MaMHCA, John demonstrates leadership and advocacy for LMHCs. His expertise includes DBT, anxiety disorders, grief education, and support for LGBTQ+ communities. He manages a private practice, works as an EAP crisis provider and senior faculty in clinical mental health counseling. John holds a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and an advanced master’s degree in Holistic Therapy.
John is currently a specialist (CIRT) for critical incident on-site response in Massachusetts at CCA, Inc., and an on-site clinician for Spring Health at Delta Air Lines in Boston.
