LMHC Continuing Education Guidelines

The Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association (MaMHCA), in collaboration with MCEAP, has established comprehensive CE Guidelines for LMHCs. These guidelines are formally approved by the Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions.

  • Most CE providers in Massachusetts have pre-approval from MaMHCA.
  • MaMHCA ensures high-quality, professional CE opportunities across the Commonwealth.
  • All approved CEs meet regulatory and licensing standards.

Retroactive Approval

If an LMHC attends a CE event that has not been previously approved by MaMHCA or NBCC, retroactive approval may be obtained if the activity meets the criteria outlined in the MaMHCA LMHC Consumer Guidelines and CMR 262 Regulations.

  • Retroactively approved CEs can count toward license renewal.
  • Complete the online Retroactive Certification Form and submit with appropriate fees.
  • Processing fees increase after October 15 in a license renewal year.
