Lunch and Learn: Substance Abuse and Family Systems

Description:

This program will review the stigma of addiction, the genetics and development of the disease, brain changes that contribute to the user's dysfunctional behaviors and thinking, how early recovery is complex, and how these issues impact the family. In addition, a review of how family "rules" and family "roles" develop in ways that may contribute to the family dysfunction will be illustrated and discussed. This lunch and learn offering was presented at last years' annual conference.

Our Presenter: Martha Deering, LADC, LRC

About our presenter:

Martha Deering has worked in the substance use and physical/cognitive rehabilitation fields for almost 50 years with extensive experience in mental health issues as they occur frequently with both substance use issues and rehabilitation issues.
