Be Aware: Physical Disabilities are Everywhere!

This workshop is designed to provide mental healthcare workers with a framework for addressing chronic pain and physical disability with clients, no matter their presenting issue in therapy.

As the Covid crisis continues, understanding and accommodating physical disability is more important than ever. Hundreds of thousands of people every year become physically disabled. It is vital that mental health practitioners are not only aware of the intersection of mental and physical health, but also have the tools to address it with their clients.

This workshop will address:

• How to be an “ambassador for disability” with your clients
• The structural and social restrictions those with physical disabilities face in and outside of therapy
• Language for addressing physical limitations with clients
• Therapeutic strategies for addressing chronic physical conditions
• Models of interactive exchange between mental and physical health
