Supervision of Trauma Work

Topics will include: Navigation of the challenges of supervision when supervisees are working with trauma survivors.  An overview of trauma will be provided, with the intention that this overview will lend itself to psycho-educational tools for supervisees to use with clients.  We will explore appropriate interventions for different stages and types of trauma in the context of supervisees’ work settings, and with the use of case examples, incorporating a strengths-based perspective.  Vicarious traumatization will be discussed.

This workshop is approved to fulfill the requirements for the initial or renewal of the MaMHCA Certified Clinical Supervision Certification. (MaCCS)

Presented by Karen Enegress.
Karen graduated from Lesley University in 1999 with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She maintains a private practice in Boston, and is an Adjunct Faculty member at Lesley where she teaches and supervises counseling interns. Formerly she was a site supervisor and staff clinician in various community-based agencies serving families, individuals, and children. She has worked for several years with adult survivors of domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse and other forms of childhood trauma, both in private practice and in a domestic violence shelter. She was a member of the Community Services program at the Trauma Center, providing crisis response services in the Boston area and co-leading expressive therapies groups to preschool-age children, designed to foster resilience in the face of poverty and trauma.
