Opioids, SUD Evaluations, and NARCAN
LMHC's in practice today must continuously update their knowledge base regarding besst practices in the diagnosis and treatment of Substance Use Disorders (SUD’s) . This training will help you develop an understanding of assessments used in private practice, agencies, and hospital settings. It will include a detailed look at poly-substance patterns, a demonstration of Narcan use, and a review of the current Massachusetts law Chapter 123, sections 12 and 35. Teach back practice will be incorporated into this training as it is an important component of health literacy used to assists professionals in educating those who are at risk for substance abuse, dependence, and overdose.
With John Ciervo, LMHC
John holds an M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling as well as a CAGS in Holistic Psychology, and has been in practice for over 12 years. Currently, John is the Behavioral Health Navigator and Crisis Interventionist at St Elizabeths Medical Center in Brighton. He is also Senior Faculty at Cambridge College in the Graduate School of Psychology and Counseling and the co-chair of the Addiction Counseling program. In addition, John is adjunct faculty at Lesley University Graduate School of Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and the CIS trainer for the Brookline Police Department where he teaches de-esclation skills for crisis intervention and provides education about mental illness.
