This is a live, virtual workshop. Pre-registration is required.
Participants should have their own copy of the large edition of DSM 5 for this workshop.
The DSM 5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Fifth Edition) has been in use since 2013, so mental health counselors should be accustomed to using it. However, some mental health counselors were trained on the DSM IV or may have had limited experience with the DSM 5, and some may be preparing to take the licensure exam and need a bit of a refresher on this newer edition.
This workshop is for students and new professional counselors as well as those who have some experience but need a review of the basics on how to use the DSM 5 in clinical practice. Participants in this 3-hour workshop will be able to:
Organize the DSM 5 for their own use
Identify important features of the DSM 5 that will enable better diagnostic skills
Apply the diagnostic process for documentation purposes, clinical application, and client education
Practice techniques for addressing the priorities in diagnosis to
