Cultural Awarenes and Cultural Centering

This workshop uses a relational model with participants to structure a safe place for difficult conversations. The format involves inclusive and culturally centering approaches for clients. We will explore how theoretical models may erase identity, context, and historical perspectives. We will also compare and critique the explicit and implicit meaning around cultural competency and cultural humility. The goal of this workshop is to find ways to renegotiate the role of the counselor with considerations for client centered models of power sharing that support client identity formation and cultural resiliency.
