Cultivating Cultural Awareness & Humility Working with Local Asian Americans

This workshop will provide helpful understanding of cultural values, traditions and behaviors that are culturally relevant. We will explore traditional behaviors and beliefs held by individuals frrom Asian American and Asian Immigrant backgrounds, build understanding and tolerance for cultural differences increases therapeutic alliances, and cultivate an ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions thereby creating space for the client to share their narrative more comfortablly. We will explore our own cultural awareness, biases and humility as we learn better ways to communicate to promote improved understanding between client and clinician.

In recognition of the fact that not all people from Asia are the same, that cultures vary from nation to nation around the Pacific rim, psychologist Aileen Lee will introdice us to some basic skills necessary for supporting these clients.
