Do you know what CACREP stands for, and how it may affect Massachusetts LMHCs?
CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs) has been given a central role in determining qualification for working with some Federal Programs. TRICARE and the VA have turned to CACREP as the standard-bearer, requiring practitioners to have graduated from CACREP certified programs. CACREP standards have formed the basis of our LMHC license law and regulations (CMR 262), but In Massachusetts, we have 17 graduate programs in mental health counseling and only one is a CACREP program.
