Congratulations to us all!
On October 26, 2007 Governor Patrick signed our Testimonial Privilege Bill into law. It is now Chapter 142 of the Acts of 2007. Chapter 112 of the General Laws (our LMHC license law) is amended to add Section 172A. The new statute will be Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 112, Section 172A.

Many thanks to Representative Ruth Balser (Newton) who sponsored our Bill and Senate President Therese Murray, and Speaker Sal DiMasi who helped it win legislative approval.

Thanks to their support, clients of LMHCs will now have the same ability to protect their right to confidentiality in certain legal situations that clients of similarly licensed and third party reimbursable practitioners, such as social workers and psychologists have had.
   

MaMHCA Certified Supervisor Training Program
MaMHCA’s Certified Supervisor Training Program was launched December 1, 2007. The program consists of 30 CE hours over a two year period of time, and includes core workshops and ‘elective workshops’.

In the past several years, mental health licensing boards across the country, responding to research on best practices, and the requirements of third party payers, have been adding CE training requirements to their criteria for Approved Supervisors. While the Allied Board in MA has yet to implement this policy, MaMHCA feels it is only a matter of time, and we want to be ahead of the curve.

Our program draws on the compilation of states’ best practices, and the unique demands of the clinical mental health community in Massachusetts. MaMHCA is very pleased that Bonnie Bullard, LMHC, who co-teaches the MaMHCA LMHC License Exam Preparation Workshop, will direct the supervision program. Please call for more information.
