MaMHCA, and its agent, MMCEP, approves providers for LMHC Continuing Education (CE) events. MMCEP also provides Guidelines FOR LMHCS on how to obtain QUALIFYING CE credits to be applied to your CE requirement for license renewal.

MMCEP seeks to maintain high standards for LMHC training and experience through the creation of performance standards for approved CE programs, AND actively seeks CE provider applications for review. MAMHCA publishes a list of approved CE programs quarterly in the their newsletter.

Provider Applications

MMCEP offers provider guidelines at no cost. Providers are charged fees to review an application based on the number of programs and CEs requested for each program which is detailed in the provider application.

MMCEP Guidelines

MMCEP, through its administrator and advisory committee, developed guidelines for consumers (LMHCS) as well as an approval process for individuals seeking retroactive approval of their CE activities that have not been previously certified as meeting LMHC CE criteria.

Retroactive Approval of CE Events

When an LMHC attends a CE event that has not been previously certified as meeting LMHC CE criteria, they can still get that event approved (if it meets the approval criteria) so they can apply it to their CE requirement to renew their license. This approval is accomplished by submitting a “Retroactive Approval” request form which is included in the CE guidelines. Retroactive approvals are charged a fee based on number of CE activities submitted.

MMCEP CE Registry

MaMHCA and MMCEP have created a CE Registry for professionals who want their CE Records verified and accurately maintained. The MMCEP CE registry will:

Maintain an accurate record of your individual CE activities.
Print and mail up to three copies of your CE activities to individuals and/or businesses you identify, e.g employers, managed care organizations, or the Licensing Board in case of an audit.
Certify up to two Retroactive CE activities of your choice (included in participation fee, LMHCs only).
Provide you with all CE registration forms.
Notify you every August of your CE status.
Notify you of changes in the CE requirements and submission procedures.

MMCEP Advisory Committee

The MMCEP Advisory Committee meets to review questions regarding provider and retroactive applications, and discuss and establish LMHC CE policies.

Members of the advisory committee review all provider and consumer (retroactive) applications for MMCEP CE certification. Members receive the benefit of having an overview of CEs offered LMHCS and can audit up to three CE events of their choice yearly at no cost.
