Changes to Licensure Rules & Regulations
MaMHCA initiates legislation aimed at improving the quality of mental health services for consumers, and improving the practice of LMHCs. MaMHCA has had 4 legislative successes in the past 15 years, including establishing the LMHC license, becoming mandated 3rd party reimbursable providers (the last group to obtain this status in the Commonwealth in 16 years), upgrading our LMHC scope of practice, obtaining Testimonial Privilege for our clients, and being named as Core Providers in the Mental Health Parity laws in our state. We also participate in legislative efforts with the Massachusetts Mental Health Coalition. We are currently working together on Payment Reform Legislation.
MaMHCA is the recognized entity for working with third party payers (insurance companies and managed care companies). MaMHCA meets regularly with 3rd party payers to discuss practice policy and issues. Importantly, MaMHCA has a seat on critical state governmental committees and panels such as the Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative Advisory, the Mass Behavioral Health Partnership Advisory Committee, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Advisory, the Task Force on Behavioral Health for Payment Reform, and more.
