Dave McAllister Elected as Director at Large
Dave McAllister, LMHC, MaCCS
At the MaMHCA Annual Planning Meeting this past Saturday (9/16/17) Dave McAllister, LMHC, MaCCS announced to the board and membership that he officially won the election for the position of Director at Large with the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA). Dave had announced his intention to run for this position after AMHCA posted it following the resignation of the previous Director at Large, LaMarr Edgerson. The election occurred by electronic ballot from 8/25/17 to 9/1/17, notices about the election were circulated by email to voting AMHCA members. MaMHCA also posted and sent email notifications regarding the election and Dave's candidacy to MaMHCA members that are also AMHCA members.
Dave is looking forward to serving on the AMHCA Board and representing LMHCs and the professional counseling profession nationally. In his candidacy Dave listed the following three primary goals for his work as North Atlantic Regional Director:
Strengthen and grow both AMHCA and the state associations. As part of this goal, it is imperative to ensure AMHCA’s short and long term financial stability. This strengthening and growth support the following goals.
Work with state associations to address state regulations regarding portability and scope of practice issues. These are critical steps in continuing our fight for recognition and equality on national programs such as Medicare, VA, etc. In regards to portability, I support AMHCA’s, the American Association of State Counseling Boards’, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision’s, and the National Board for Certified Counselors’ proposed uniform portability plan called the National Counselor Licensure Endorsement Process which has an inclusive perspective on educational preparation which I have long advocated for.
Achieve Medicare recognition. This is critical for both the profession and for the availability and accessibility of services for our clients.
The MaMHCA Board was thrilled to hear about Dave's success in running for this position. Dave's appointment continues his own involvement nationally with AMHCA as he has previously served on their Public Policy and Legislation committee. Additionally, Dave now joins several from the MaMHCA community who have taken on leadership roles on a national level at AMHCA:
