Program Description:

I. MaMHCA’s Certified Supervisor Training Program

Training and Certification of Approved Supervisors is a national trend in mental health counseling.

Our MaMHCA program reflects and enlarges upon the research on best practices in supervision, conducted by the American Association of State Counseling Boards (AASCB).

The complete program will consist of 30 CE hours over a two year period of time, with 5 Core Subjects, that will form the cornerstone of the program, and 5 additional elective/specialty subjects.

The Core Subjects will include:

• A Supervision Framework
• Ethical & Legal Issues in Supervision
• Supervision & LMHC licensure requirements
• Record keeping for Supervisors
• Supervising Supervisors

The Elective/Specialty Subjects will Include :

• Supervising Work with Adults
• Supervising Work with Children & Adolescents
• Supervising Agency work
• Special Issues: e.g. suicidality, psychopharmacological issues, and referrals.

II. The MaMHCA Certified Supervisor

• At the conclusion of the program, participants who completed all 30 CE hours through MaMHCA can become a “MaMHCA Certified Supervisor” by successfully submitting an additional Supervision Case Presentation.
• Individuals can also achieve the MaMHCA Certification if they complete at least 15 CE hours with MaMHCA and & 15 outside CE hours with similar content (Including Ethics).
• The Certification will be free to those who complete the entire MaMHCA program.
• There will be a fee for all applicants from other routes.
• All MaMHCA Certified Supervisors must have a valid LMHC and 3 years post license (5 years after MA degree) or the ACS certification from NBCC.
• There will be a further CE requirement in Supervision for continuing re-certification.
  
  ► Please note, the MaMHCA Certified Supervisor does not replace the current definition of Approved Supervisor under the CMR 262.

III. The MaMHCA Approved Supervisor Directory
MaMHCA receives many inquiries for referrals for Approved Supervision. We have decided to coordinate and maintain this information resource in a MaMHCA Approved Supervisor Directory.

The Directory will be made available and distributed to:

• Graduate training programs
• Mental health agencies
• Mental health counseling Interns
• Individuals in Post MA work experience
• and other mental health practitioners.

Eligibility for the MaMHCA Approved Supervisor Directory

• MaMHCA Certified Supervisors,
• ACS supervisors of NBCC,
• Other LMHCs who meet the criteria for Approved Supervision in the CMR 262

will be eligible for listing in the Supervisor Directory.

There will be an application, and a nominal fee, for a listing and MaMHCA will undertake the distribution and promotion of the directory.

There will be a further CE requirement in Supervision for continuing re-certification and Directory Listing.
